Old American Golf Club

The DFW Tour headed to The Colony on Monday for the inaugural Campaign at Old American Golf Club. The unquestioned winner was the golf course, one of the very best and most interesting in the area, but several players were able to leave their mark around the edges of Lake Lewisville.

The better players seemed to struggle the most relative to ability at Old American, as witnessed by 78 as a winning Championship flight score. Nevertheless, low score wins, and Collin Gibson was victorious in his first Tour start on the tremendously challenging course. Second went to Dallas Webster with an 83.

Chase Day didn't need a single birdie to notch the Palmer flight crown, firing an 82 that earned him a comfortable win. A two-time winner in 2018-19, Day's win was his first in 2020 and featured consistent nines of 40-42.

The closest flight of the day was Hogan, as the top nine players all finished within three shots of the lead. It took extra holes to determine a winner, as Rick Houchins and Craig Vanderlaan tied at 87 and headed to the nearby 11th tee to crown a champion. Houchins prevailed in the extra frame, notching his second win of the season. Jeff Blackwood was the third place finisher.

Sr. Hogan also required extra time, with the top three spots separated by just two shots. At 86 were Steve Shockley and Jalil Daneshfar, and the two went back out to settle it in sudden-death. Daneshfar was victorious in the playoff, and has still not finished outside the top two this season in three starts. William Rouse rounded out the top three with 88.

Sarazen was also tight, as seventh place finshed only four shots adrift of the lead. The top score, however, was turned in by Joe Luman, whose 87 nipped Robert Williams by two shots. Luman's win was his first of the season.

Sr. Sarazen was extremely competitive as well, the top separated by just a stroke. Mike Cox shot 88 and lost out in the scorecard playoff, finishing third. The winner of that playoff was Zane Latham, and the flight winner was Steve Killion, who's now two-for-two on the season after consecutive February victories.

Ed Walden made his Tour debut at OAGC on Monday, and some jitters were showing early in the round, playing his first seven holes in 18 over par. Once he made the turn though, Walden settled down nicely, firing a 41 that helped him into a playoff with Jason Jenniges at 97. For the second time in as many days, Jenniges was a playoff runner-up, as Walden started his career off in ideal fashion by winning the trophy.

Robert Houghton found himself tied for the lead with his playing companion on the final tee box on Monday. Playing the difficult 11th, Houghton managed a timely bogey that wrapped up a one-shot win, his first on the Tour this season. Houghton totaled 91, the same number he fired at Cowboys GC in a runner -up effort earlier in the month.
